Election recap, Sen. Jayapal on Civic Cocktail, Nov. 4

Calling all civic geeks looking to debrief following the general election. Join us for a post-election recap with political consultants Christian Sinderman and John Wyble at the November Civic Cocktail, 5:30 p.m., Wed., Nov. 4 at the Palace Ballroom, 2100 5th Ave. Get insight on the outcomes of races, including the district contests for Seattle City Council and ballot measures such as the Move Seattle levy. Plus, Charley Royer, former Seattle mayor, weighs in on the city’s changing political landscape.

Then State Sen. Pramila Jayapal (D-Seattle) will join host Joni Balter to talk about her first year in the state senate, where she is the only woman of color. The 37th District senator and founder of the immigrant advocacy group OneAmerica endorsed City Councilmember Kshama Sawant’s re-election campaign, is an ally of Mayor Ed Murray, and received national attention over her response to the interruption of a Bernie Sanders rally by Black Lives Matter movement activists. She has vowed to work to lift the state ban on rent control. What’s next for this longtime advocate turned politician?

A panel of journalists will also join the discussion: Crosscut’s David Kroman and The Stranger’s Heidi Groover.

Civic Cocktail – presented by Seattle Channel, Seattle CityClub and Crosscut – offers a night of networking, civic conversation, Tom Douglas appetizers and a no-host bar. Join us for an evening of smart talk! Tickets are $20 to $25. Register via Seattle City Club.
