Lindy West on costs of activism, politicians on igniting change at Civic Cocktail, May 3

Social justice and grassroots activism in a charged political climate are on the agenda at the May 3 Civic Cocktail at Palace Ballroom, 2100 Fifth Ave.

Lindy West, columnist at “The Guardian” and contributor to “This American Life,” will join host Joni Balter to discuss the role of humor in social justice, pop culture and the current political climate. Then, Washington State Democratic Party Chair Tina Podlodowski and Bill Bryant, 2016 Republican gubernatorial candidate, will discuss activism tactics that create impactful political change. Bryant replaces Chris Vance, former Washington State Republican Party chair, who was originally scheduled as a panelist but is unable to attend.

Tickets are $20 to $25. Register via Seattle City Club. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the program is at 6 p.m. Civic Cocktail will premiere on Seattle Channel (cable 21), 8 p.m., Thursday, May 4, and will also be available online.
