Also, The Young Evils blow the doors off of the studio. (Note: the band kindly replaced the doors afterwards.)

Originally written as a Julie Andrews television special in 1956, Rodgers’ and Hammerstein’s musical Cinderella is not to be confused with the Disney version. (Think less talking mice, more fantastic music.) On the eve of its enchanting Seattle premiere, the 5th Avenue’s David Armstrong tells the history of this delightful alternate take on the classic rags-to-riches tale, with its stars on hand to sing along. NOTE: Pumpkins are not provided.

Satirical Songwriter Roy Zimmerman on Front Row

What’s funny about war, poverty, ignorance, bigotry, neo-conservatism, homophobia, greed, lust and fear? Ask Roy Zimmerman. He’s been writing left-wing, satirical songs for twenty years. Before embarking on a solo career, Zimmerman founded and wrote all the material for the comedy folk quartet The Foremen. The Los Angeles Times says, “Zimmerman displays a lacerating wit and keen awareness of society’s foibles that bring to mind a latter-day Tom Lehrer.” Tom Lehrer himself says, “I congratulate Roy Zimmerman on reintroducing literacy to comedy songs. And the rhymes actually rhyme, they don’t just ‘rhyne.’” This concert was recorded at West Seattle’s Kenyon Hall.
