Notes from Nancy Guppy
Hi there,
Well, here’s a stupid human trick for you. I went downtown on Sunday to do a few errands when, on Pine street between 3rd and 4th, I stumbled, my right foot turned inward, and I “fell” off of my flat clog. The weirdness of the angle, along with the sense of something popping near my big toe, made it clear that the situation should be taken seriously. Never the less, I immediately righted myself and continued on my mission to find THE PERFECT BLACK BOOTS! (I know, I’m a dumb dumb.) I hobbled into John Fluevog, tried on a boot that was obviously wrong whether or not my foot was twisted, managed to not buy the boot, got myself to the car, and headed home.
Here’s the upshot: x-rays say no break, just “soft tissue damage”, which translates into crutches for a couple of weeks. Wow, do I ever hate being slowed down. That’s probably why this is good for me. So, all week long I’ve been elevating and icing. And that’s what’s happening right now. I’m sitting on the couch, with an elevated foot, eating a late breakfast of Kashi brand cheesy crackers (they’re really good), and writing this blog. Huh. Strangely enough, when I think about it, I feel kinda happy. Must be the crackers.
Alright. This Friday is an “Art Zone” repeat of our “Open Studio” episode from last week, where we featured five terrific local performers: Ron Fulton, Kate Graves & Michael Connelly, Haruko Nishimura and Joshua Kohl, Toy Box Trio, and Rob Witmer. Check it out if you haven’t already.
And although my injury has me severely cutting back my social calendar, I will be attending “Transition”, the Reggie Watts/Tommy Smith show at On the Boards this evening. The show runs through Saturday, 10/17, and I predict crazy-fun-silly-cool-hilariousness. Catch it if you can. (My other activity over the next few days will be dinner at Oaxaca in Ballard. The fish tacos are to die for!)
The first annual Gregory Awards, Seattle’s version of the Tony Awards, happens Monday, October 19th, at Intiman Theatre. With the “Who’s Who” of the theatre world in attendance, along with delectable food, drinks and music, this promises to be a super special event. Tickets
And last, but not least, Trophy Cupcakes is featuring their famous “Chocolate Stout Cupcakes”, made with Hales Cream Stout for Oktoberfest. Pick up this dreamy concoction—Chocolate Stout cupcake topped with caramel stout butter cream and a stout caramel drizzle– every Wednesday and Saturday at all three locations. Mmm, mmm, good!
“Art Zone” will be back in the saddle with a bright & shiny new episode on Friday, October 23rd. In the meantime, watch our reruns, get out there and experience Seattle’s marvelous art scene for yourself, and… walk carefully!
Thanks for being so cool.
xo, nancy g.
P.S. I partly blame my fall on the slippery socks I was wearing with the clogs and, to be candid, the fact that I had waaaay too much caffeine that day, to the point where I felt floaty, disassociated, and slightly insane. You know what I’m saying– the kind of nutball person you try to avoid…
